About

My name is Jay Hochberg, I am a Textile Artist and Print Designer currently studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

I have a passion for working with my hands and primarily concentrate on creating in physical mediums. I bring this method into my work as a pattern maker, by always beginning my process in my sketchbook. Staying true to roots of colored pencil and marker drawings allows me to create in a flow state. I then transform my intuitively childlike designs and illustrations into complex digital repeat pattern units that are able to address various markets and industries.

Also a lover of poetry and the written word, I am constantly seeking out new inspiration for personal collections through my interest in the psychological connections made between feelings and imagery.

My work is consistently reminiscent of playful scribbles and doodles, as I aim to create a contemporary and fully resolved feeling for familiar intuitive art practices in order to incorporate them into bigger ideas and projects. Working in this way that comes very naturally often allows my pieces to reflect personal feelings and connections in my own life which shine through in the abstract shapes and details I use to construct my patterns. This way, I am as intertwined with each drawing, motif and pattern as I hope each user and consumer of my work will be.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fibers & Textile Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
